Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said Italians were merely being asked to stay at home

Italy’s foreign minister has said he hopes his country will be the first in Europe to leave coronavirus behind, as the number of deaths rises above 1,000.

More than 15,000 cases have been confirmed across Italy.
