I just got done checking out an article in Forbes about a rumor that cassette tapes may be coming back, and how the art of the mixtape has been destroyed by technology. I agree that the art of the mixtape has been destroyed. Everything is so fast now that people don’t take the time to enjoy the process. I mean artist take their time making songs and getting them ready for the listeners, but the listeners are programmed to skim and to skip now.
And the people who make the mixtapes just lost faith in alot of listeners (not all) because they know that they’ll just skim and skip instead of listening to the whole thing. It’s like the fans turned into A&R’s OVERNIGHT. They’ll listen for 8-15 seconds and if it doesn’t catch them they move on to the next song. So the art of the mixtape has been lost by the makers and listeners alike. Maybe Michele Catalano can help the world remember how it use to be and how it should be. I’m not an expert or anihytng but I think I may have an explanation for this thing’. I used to do hair part time in a Health Center (this is what used to be referred to as a nursing home), and many of the patients were either recovering from a surgery or had been previously bed ridden. In any case, they had lost some substantial weight during their stay and we would see these things in the folds of their necks or in loose skin that was dangling behind their ears. They were once lovely pockets of waxy, sebaceous goodness, that had been hidden in the patients girth before the weight loss.. As the client would loose weight the skin would start to loosen up around the sac allowing the keratin disc to slowly dry out and turn brown. Very often they would fall out themselves. They would S-T-I-N-K to high heaven! Even the pocket they left behind would stink a room up for a couple of weeks after being exposed and emptied. Truthfully the area would stink forever unless it was allowed to fully dry out and heal. As much as I love this kind of thing, I have to admit I don’t miss that at all!!Well-loved.
