This 13 foot statue of Christopher Columbus was designed by Gaetano Russo in 1892.

Christopher Columbus is one of my favorite characters of all time and I’ll tell you why. He’s one of my favorite characters of all time because when everyone thought the world was flat, he stood up and said, “NO! It is round!” And he proved it by taking a voyage with his 3 ships and discovered a new world. I’m not writing this to start a debate about who owned what land and who didn’t. This one is about believing in yourself when many people may not believe in you. And Christopher Columbus is a prime example of why you should believe in yourself even if no one else does.

The statue above now has its own apartment in New York. No more staying outside for the great explorer. But happy Columbus Day and Happy Native American Day in South Dakota.
